Lee left Alex and Aidan alone for a while to talk.

“What are we going to do here, Alex?” Aidan asked as he handed him a beer. Alex sighed deeply. “I wish the fuck I knew. I want your woman, Aidan. I’m sorry but I can’t lie to you. She’s amazing, beautiful, powerful, everything you said and more. Sharing magic with her only made it worse.” He pressed his fingertips into his temples. Aidan saw the cut on his palm and made an annoyed sound. He took Alex’s hand and laved his tongue over the wound. “You should have told me you needed my help,”

he said as he let go, feeling Alex’s blood course through his veins.

“I was a little distracted by jonesing after your wife,” Alex said ruefully and nodded toward his hand. “Thanks, she’s got one too, you should look at it when you get the chance.”

Aidan nodded.

“This thing out there, it’s bad, Aidan. It wants her and I’m afraid that if we can’t come to some kind of solution between the three of us, that it’ll take her. If this guy can corrupt her magic, use her distraction or her angst to get inside, he can turn her. If he does, there’s no getting her back. She’ll be his.”

“We’ve got to find a way then, don’t we? Lee’s sister Em is something of a magical scholar, we should call her and get her looking into this situation between the three of us. I can’t help but feel that with the dreams you two have shared, and the fact that you and I are connected, that this is meant to be and quite possibly the key to helping Lee defeat this threat.”

Lee stood in the doorway, hesitating for a moment, not wanting to interrupt the moment between the two friends but both men looked up at her with hungry eyes.

“Darlin’, can you contact your sister and have her look into this whole thing? The triad, the combination of witch, wizard and vampire—it just seems too coincidental to not look into.”

Lee nodded. “Good idea, I’ll call her now,” she said and left the room quickly. She discussed the situation in detail with her sister.

“Duh. I’ve been researching this since you and Aidan met that creepy guy sent by Cole.” Em made a sound of frustrated annoyance.

“You have? Oh, well, that’s good.”

“You know, this is my job, my gift. It’s totally common sense for me to look into it. I haven’t found much but I did just locate some really old texts that I had just started translating earlier today. They have promise. I’ll call you when I have answers.”

“Are you mad at me?” Lee asked, not needing to be an empath to hear the agitation in her normally sweet sister’s voice.

“No.” Em sighed. “I just get a bit tired of people underestimating me.”

“I didn’t underestimate you! When we thought of it I came straight to you.”

“Why not realize that I’d be on it? I know you’re the powerful one, but I have a gift too, people seem to forget that.
